LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's Patience Knight has been named the 20th recipient of the Honda Inspiration Award, which is given to an outstanding female college athlete who overcomes adversity to excel in her sport.

Knight was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor near her heart during the 2007 season. She underwent rounds of chemotherapy and radiation while still competing during the 2007 season. She is now cancer-free and competing stronger than ever. This season has been a breakout year for Knight as she earned her first All-American honor at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the shot put. She owns both the indoor and outdoor school records with throws of 56'-8" and 57'-11" respectively.

Knight was also chosen for her strength of character and the example she sets for her teammates and family members. She is a Wildlife and Range Management major with a 3.9 GPA and was a 2007 CoSIDA Academic All-American.

The Collegiate Women's Sports Awards, which awards the Honda Inspiration Award, annually recognizes and honors the accomplishments of female athletes in NCAA-member colleges. Knight will travel to New York City to accept the Honda Inspiration Award on June 22nd and attend a dinner in her honor.
