In dramatic fashion, the Texas Tech baseball team defeated sixth-ranked Southern California, 4-3, on Friday afternoon at Dan Law Field. Down 3-0 going into the last inning, the Red Raiders scored four unearned runs on just one hit in front of 3,977 rabid Dan Law Field fans.

USC starter Mark Prior held Tech to just three hits before being removed in the ninth with one out. However, relievers Ronald Flores and Pete Montrenes could not hold the lead for the Trojans.

Marco Cunningham lead off the ninth inning by reaching on an error. Two batters later, Shaun Larkin reached on an error to set the stage for Chaz Eiguren. The designated hitter knocked a single to centerfield to score Cunningham for Tech's first run of the game. Larkin then scored from third on a wild pitch to make the game 3-2. After pinch hitter Chad Landry was intentionally walked to load the bases, Trey Lunsford and Eric McLamore drew back-to-back walks to win the game for the Red Raiders.

Right-hander Steve Rowe earned the win with a career-high 5.2 innings of relief. Rowe, a sophomore, held the Trojans scoreless on just one hit and three strikeouts. Starter Kevin Tracey lasted into the fourth inning before being relieved by Clancy Fossum. Fossum faced one batter before Rowe finished the game.

The two teams will square off tomorrow at Dan Law Field with the first pitch scheduled for noon. The finale of the three-game series will be Sunday at 1 p.m.
